Spicy Honey Roasted Habanero Nuts

A great and simple way to spice up a classic snack is to add the heat of habanero powder to home made honey roasted nuts. These honey roasted nuts are great to simply snack on while watching tv or as a great party snack to give your guests something extra. The homemade honey roasted nuts blow away the store bought version.

Ingredients

4 cups mixed nuts, like cashews, almonds, macadamia nuts, or pecans
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup butter
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon ground cloves
3 tablespoons of habanero pepper powder

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

Spread out the nuts on a baking sheet in a single layer.

Put the nuts in the oven and roast them for 10 to 15 minutes, until they just start to turn golden.

Take the nuts out of the oven and dump them into a large bowl.

While the nuts are baking you will make the honey coating for the habanero nuts.

Combine the honey and butter in a sauce pan with 1/2 of the sugar and bring to a boil over medium high heat while stirring occasionally.

Once it begins boiling stop stirring and let it boil for 5 minutes.

Combine the cloves, paprika, cinnamon, and habanero pepper powder with the remaining 1/2 cup of sugar.

Pour the boiling mixture over the nuts and stir well to even coat the nuts. Sprinkle the sugar mixture over the nuts and stir once more.

Spread out the coated nuts onto a cookie sheet and try to separate them with a spatula or tongs so they can cool off completely.

You can store the honey roasted habanero nuts in an airtight container for a week or two but they are best fresh and warm.
